It seems that every month, a new method of communication pops up. Technology is moving so fast, making it hard to keep up. There is one form of traditional media that is really working hard to keep with the times, and for the most part, is succeeding. The media? Radio.
When you think about it, radio was likely the first real technology in most homes. And, it is withstanding the test of time, even though the days are gone when the family gathered around the radio to listen to a comedy show.
Using radio as a marketing tool for your business is still a good investment. It is one of the most affordable mediums to choose from. Sure, like anything, you can go overboard and spend too much. But if you are smart, it can be very cost effective.
You can target your demographic with radio based on the format of the station. Obviously, top 40 and rock appeals more to the younger demographic and easy listening and oldies stations garner an older audience.
Radio really works well when paired with other mediums such as newspaper, direct mail, television and FaceBook. And most stations stream their live broadcasts on their websites, so you can listen to your favorite station wherever you are.
Sure, every pro has a con and radio is no different. In some markets, there is a glut of stations, making it expensive to reach your market and harder to get measureable results than with some of the new media.
But truthfully, a well thought out plan and creative spots can go a long way to effectively reach your local market. After all these years, radio is still relevant and still a good buy.
