Do you, as the business owner, have control of the access to your website and social media accounts?
Do you really know who has access to your social media and website accounts?
We are seeing more and instances where every employee in the company has social media and website admin rights to post, or, an employee has left the company yet still has access to the social media and website accounts. Sometimes even both scenarios!
Another issue some of our clients are experiencing are unknown login and password information. Many businesses have an administrative person that looks after their website and social media. What if that staff person leaves your employment? Do you know what the login and passwords are? If you don’t, you could lose access to your own accounts. Make sure your online passwords and login information are well documented and stored where you can easily find them. Compile a document which lists all your online passwords and login information for employees who have social media and website access. On the same document, include the name and contact information for the company who is hosting your website, and when your domain name is up for renewal and set a calendar reminder to renew it, if you’re not set to auto renew.
Lastly, and most importantly, make sure all your online accounts and registrations are in your name (business owner) and not a hosting company or an employee.
These are all very important exercises to undertake. Your social media accounts and website are company assets too. Protect them!
