Is it just me or does it seem like there are more and more nuisance phone calls coming through our business lines. When I say nuisance, I mean call centres selling business services, most of which are legit. A lot of times there is no one there when you answer the phone, just dead air, and after a few seconds, a voice kicks in.
As a business owner, I’m sure you get calls from Google. Unfortunately though, not all phone calls from people claiming to be associated with Google are legitimate.
You may receive a phone call from Google to verify your business or confirm business details for Google Maps, or a call from a Google account manager whom you’ve spoken with before. These are fine. You can also check this information yourself online with your Google account. But there are always bad people and you have to be aware of who is good and who is bad.
Google does not:
- charge to be added in Google My Business or in Google Search.
- offer to improve your search ranking or manage your business’s online profile.
- ask you for your password or verification code. You should never provide sensitive information about your account (like your password and verification code) to a caller.
If you receive a robocall placed with a recorded voice for any of the above reasons, it is not from Google.
We all know about the “your computer is infected” folks, and are now just amused when we hear the “Captain is Calling”. Remember, not all Google calls are legit so be careful.
