Are you building a new website? One of the biggest challenges you will face is gathering content for the site. We have done a lot of websites over the years and the one thing that draws the project out is waiting on the content from the client. The shoe was on the other foot this summer when an organization I belong to did a new site, and I was tasked with gathering the new content, and it was tough. My advice, if you know you are going to move forward on a new site, start early. Do yourself a favour and start thinking about it at least a month ahead of time. Starting a month early will shorten the project by a month at the end.
We are working on a couple of large national events being held in Fredericton. Once you work on a big event, you get a better understanding of just how large the impact is on the local economy. Not only do the attendees spend a lot of money at local hotels and restaurants and shops, the organizers use local vendors and suppliers to put on the event. Big events and conventions are really good for a lot of local businesses. Be supportive if you can.
During the past week a couple of clients had negative comments posted on their Facebook pages. As hard as it is, handle it with grace and quickly. Don’t let it fester, comment in an apologetic manner and offer to contact them privately. Although, if they are mean-spirited and use profanity, you can delete their post and block them from your site.
