Marketing Genius or a Naïve Public?
We have weekly predictions on the resetting of gasoline prices. If the price per litre goes up a penny, people often buy gas on Wednesday, just to save…. a mere fifty cents. While in the store to pay for their gas, they buy a bottle of water. A 500 ml bottle of water averages $2.59! Two 500 ml bottles of water (one litre) costs $5.18! Yet, we get concerned when our gas is going up to $1.18 a litre. Do the math..we’re paying $4.00 more for a litre of water. Who is to blame for us paying this much for water? Great marketing or a naïve public? Might be a bit of both.
Sponsored Ad Overload
Here is my money saving tip for this week. I know Facebook advertising is very cost effective. But just because it is fairly inexpensive to run ads doesn’t mean you have to go crazy. I use Facebook for work and for recreation. Most of us really don’t like sponsored ads, but we live with them. Seeing the same ad over and over every time you are on Facebook is really not helping the advertiser, it is actually annoying people. Cool it a bit, running the ad once every couple of days is sufficient.
Lemons and Lemonade
Kudos to Saint John real estate agent Alan Stillwell. A vandal defaced one of his real estate signs by adding additional facial hair and dark glasses to his face. In response, Alan posed next to the defaced sign, with the same markings Photoshopped on his real face. It went viral. Good job for thinking outside the box and turning an unfortunate incident into an opportunity.
