As I go through each day, I take note of things I see or hear in the world of marketing. Following are little things that don’t warrant an entire column on their own, but are worth sharing.
What the heck is going on with Black Friday? Almost every ad in the local newspaper and on the radio this week has been for a Black Friday sale. Some of the deals look good but don’t come close to what they offer south of the border. I’m all for shopping local, but the hardcore shoppers are still going to Maine, no matter how hard we try.
I have noticed a huge increase in “like and share” Facebook contests. We even run them at Kiers Marketing Group. Do they work? For example, we have been running a Facebook contest giving away tickets to Christmas @ The Playhouse. Our initial post had over 23,000 views. Yikes – yes, they do.
On the customer service side of business, I have noticed that not everyone puts an “Out of the Office” auto reply on their email or voicemail when they go on vacation or are out of the office for a day. What a great way to lose business and frustrate existing clients!
Received a notification of a local business having a grand re-opening at their new location. Went to the their website and it has the old address. Geez, you have to keep your website current.
We always talk about spending your marketing dollars wisely by marketing directly to your target market. Last month I saw a bus shelter sign for a Justin Bieber concert, right in front of the York Care Centre nursing home. A bit of a stretch I think.
Thanks for letting me share this with you. Happy Black Friday.
